Emergency Dental Care in Rogers, AR
Dental emergencies can happen in an instant, and often at the most poorly timed moments. If you or a loved one is experiencing severe dental pain or injury, remain calm and reach out to Dr. Todd Phelan and his team as soon as possible. We’ll do everything in our power to see your case on the same day as your initial call, if needed, and in the meantime, we can provide guidance for how to best manage your situation until you’re able to reach our office. Patients from Rogers, Bella Vista, Bentonville, Lowell, and beyond are welcome!
Here are some tips for how to handle some of the most common dental emergencies we see:
Broken Tooth
Rinse the tooth with water. If there is swelling, intermittently hold a cold compress against the affected area until you arrive at our practice.
Knocked Out Temporary Crown
Did you lose the crown? If not, carefully dry your natural tooth and apply a small amount of toothpaste or dental wax to the area. Then, very gently place the crown in its original position. This should provide a temporary solution for patients until Dr. Phelan is able to professionally reattach the restoration.
Severe Toothache
Is it possible there could be something stuck in the space around the tooth that’s causing the discomfort? As a first step, thoroughly floss and rinse so that any food particles or other debris can be dislodged. If pain persists, contact our Rogers practice.
We do strongly recommend NOT placing an aspirin directly on the tooth or gums, as this can cause additional pain to the gum tissue.
Knocked Out Tooth
If you still have the tooth, rinse it very carefully under running water in order to remove any foreign debris while also keeping pieces of natural tissue as intact as possible. Do not scrub the root surface. If you can place it back into the socket and hold it there until you’re able to reach our practice, please do so. Otherwise, place the tooth in a small cup or plastic bag of milk. Once you arrive, Dr. Phelan can perform an evaluation and inform you whether or not reattachment is a viable option.
